Aki, whose real name is Nariaki, is the 34-year-old CEO and designer of ALPHABET CITY. Born in Katsushika, Tokyo, he grew up in bustling areas like Kasai, Nishi-Kasai, Minami-Suna, Mizoguchi, and Shin-Koiwa. His journey took him from these Tokyo neighborhoods to Queens and Brooklyn in New York, eventually leading him to his current mainstay, ALPHABET CITY.
In 2011, he relocated to Queens and by 2014, started a new chapter of his life in the ALPHABET CITY area. Amidst his growing interest in sports and activewear, the idea for his brand, ALPHABET CITY, was conceived in 2019. The journey was not an easy one. Facing challenges like establishing manufacturing partnerships and the impact of the pandemic, Aki's fervor and determination prevailed. By June 2023, he had launched the brand on KICKSTARTER, and in July, celebrated the grand opening of the ABC Web Store.
Music has also played a significant role in his career. At the age of 15, he started rapping and from 18, he honed his skills in beat making, producing, and as a recording engineer. This musical journey profoundly influences his design approach and brand philosophy. While he once dreamed of making a living in music, that dream did not come to fruition. Nevertheless, those experiences fueled his new challenge with ALPHABET CITY.
Aki's future vision involves expanding the ALPHABET CITY brand lineup. He aims to offer underwear such as shorts, longs, trunks, and briefs, all imbued with a unique style. On a personal note, he enjoys hobbies like cooking, training, and art collecting, all of which serve as sources of his creative inspiration. Behind him is a team of sewing and fabric specialists, collaborating to produce the highest quality items.
Aki's "Alphabet City" collection, crafted over four years, boasts impeccable quality. It has received overwhelming support from customers who have made purchases and experienced it firsthand.
