Skulls and Blossoms

A design that celebrates the dead from different cultures, connecting souls and bridging past and future.

In Mexico, there's a traditional event on November 1st called "Día de los Muertos," where the deceased are honored and celebrated. Similarly, in Japan, we have a cultural tradition called "Obon" to commemorate our departed loved ones. While "Día de los Muertos" and "Obon" hail from different cultural origins, both hold a shared profound love and respect for those who have passed.

When I first experienced the vibrant and beautiful skulls and designs of this Mexican tradition, I was truly touched. At first, I thought of creating a design that blended both the Japanese and Mexican traditions. However, out of immense respect for each distinctive culture, I decided to focus primarily on "Día de los Muertos".

For me, this design embodies various notions of "Cross Over", bridging cultures, souls, and eras. I sincerely hope that through this design, you'll find a renewed appreciation for celebrating life and honoring the departed.

With deep respect and love for these beautiful cultures.
